DJ Michelle
Michelle Tanmizi was born in Indonesia, but has lived in many countries, including central and south America, before finally settling in Hong Kong. At a very early age, she discovered that she not only has a love of music, but an 'ear' for it. By the age of 5, she was imitating her sister's piano pieces without having learned to play the instrument at all. At the age of 6 and after secretly playing a piano piece for the sister's teacher, purely by memory and by ear, she was finally allowed to take the piano lessons she so wanted and hence started her musical education. Michelle's DJ debut started more than 4 years ago with Hip Hop, R&B and commercial dance music, at the Hong Kong Sevens, an international Rugby event that draws thousands of people from around the world. After her first gig, the corporate box where she worked with another DJ, was voted the best party box of the event. The rest, as they say, is history and she has since been commissioned as one of the regular DJs at the event. Michelle's Latin dancing started much the same way as her musical career - through an instinctive understanding of the rhythm. By observing other dancers, she picked up her skills and has been dancing salsa for over 8 years. She has a strong passion for the Latin language (she speaks Spanish), music and culture and spinning salsa music came second nature to her. Since she started, she has not only drawn in crowds to the clubs where she works, but has earned herself the reputation of being one of the best DJs in Hong Kong. Michelle's strength in her work comes not only from her musical background, but also from her ability to instinctively know what moves people and rocks the floor. An astute observer and a 'people person', she also gets her inspiration from watching the dance floor and the interaction between the dancers. Being possibly the only professional female Salsa DJ in Asia makes her unique in her field but her music makes her special. Wherever Michelle is spinning in Hong Kong, there is sure to be a crowd. |
