DJ Bosco

DJ Bosco is arguably one of Asia's most popular DJ's.

Born and raised in New York City's Spanish Harlem and being of Puerto Rican decent Dj Bosco cut his teeth on Salsa Music. As early as eight years old Dj Bosco began listening to the then popular and now world famous Symphony Sid radio show which featured all the Salsa greats.

He was also a member of a New York City street gang known as the 'Copacetic Dragons' of which band leader Joe Bataan was a starting member of the senior division known only as 'The Dragons'. His sister was dating an up and coming salsa trombonist known as 'Johnny Colon' and Dj bosco was busy lending support to his neighborhood friend George Rodriquez, Eddie and Little Louie who were starting a group they called 'The New Swing Sextet' (Pico Swing) which is still one of his favorite bands today.

At the age of twelve Dj Bosco talked his way into a Salsa Sunday afternoon dance hall party at Colgate Gardens by convincing the legendary Barry Rogers (of Eddie Palmieri band fame) to allow him to carry his trombone into the dance hall. From then on he continued the Sunday afternoon event and danced and listened to live performances by such bands as Pacheco, Charlie and Eddie Palmieri, Joe Cuba, Tito Rodriquez, Puente, Machito and many, many more.

By the age of 16 Dj bosco was a regular at all of New York's dance halls such as the Embassy Ballrooms, The Palladium, Basin Street East (which featured Richie Ray and Orchestra Broadway) as well as The Hunts Point Place, the club where the top musicians would go after hours (beginning at 3 a.m.) for impromptu jam sessions from which the Allegre All Stars emerged, and eventually evolved into the Fania All Stars.

Also, around this time DJ Bosco was accepted into perhaps New York's City's most prestigious school for young musicians and the arts at the time, the legendary 'High School of Music and Art'. It was here were he befriended one of the great Latin Jazz Giants and his brother - Gerry and Andy Gonzales of Fort Apache Band fame and who have gone on to play with all the great bands of today.

Dj bosco believes much of his popularity is do to these early experiences, understanding, memories and friendships with many of the top musicians of that time, as well as his wide and rare collection of original CD's.

DJ bosco has played regularly at Singapore's Union Square Salsa Club, The Upper Club Singapore, Experience Hong Kong, Club 97 Hong Kong, and Ministry of Sound Singapore and has open for the Joe Palenco Salsa big band at the 2006 Singapore International Salsa Festival to name just a few.

In 2008 he conceived and played the 'Critics Choice/The Best of 2007' at Singapore's Union Square Club on February 1 and at Salsa Havana in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on February 14, 2008 DJ Bosco played at the 4th Salsa India festival 2008 in Mumbai India, and the Malaysia World Salsa congress 2008 in Pagang Malaysia, where international band leader Gerardo Rosales referred to DJ Bosco as "Swinging"!.
